Malaysia’s hopes of advancing to the semi-finals of the ASEAN U-16 Women’s Championship 2025 came to an end after a 3-1 defeat to regional rivals Indonesia at Manahan Stadium, Surakarta.
The much-anticipated clash between the two neighboring nations was decisive in determining the Group A winner and a place in the last four.
However, it was Indonesia who seized the early initiative, striking twice within the opening 15 minutes. Nasywa Fatah opened the scoring before Jazlyn Firyal doubled the lead from the penalty spot, leaving Malaysia chasing the game.
Head coach Leila Chua’s young squad struggled to find a breakthrough in the first half, going into the interval two goals down.
Malaysia showed resilience after the restart and were finally rewarded in the 81st minute, when star forward Laila Syamila pulled one back to reignite hopes of a late comeback.
But those hopes were short-lived as Indonesia responded almost immediately. Vivi Fernanda struck just a minute later to restore the two-goal cushion and ultimately seal the victory.
The final whistle confirmed a 3-1 triumph for Indonesia, who secured the top spot in Group A and advanced to the semi-finals.
