Vietnam, take the 3rd place of the tournament and qualified to AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2022 at Kuwait, after win Myanmar by penalty shoot-out 4-1 after draw in 40 minutes 1-1 in the AFF Futsal Championship 2022 3rd/4th place match at the Indoor Stadium Huamark, Bangkok.
The winner had to be decided via a penalty kick after both teams were tied 1-1 in 40 minutes of play.
The tough victory also brought Vietnam to the AFC Futsal Championship 2022 which is scheduled to take place in Kuwait in September.
The same situation as the inaugural action of group B can be witnessed when Myanmar did not directly provide an easy path for Pham Minh Giang’s squad.
While Vietnam dominated the game in the first half, Myanmar who showed energetic action throughout the tournament were seen to have more chances to threaten the opponent’s goal.
With a good defensive pattern displayed by both teams, the players seemed to do more shots from distance than attempts in the D area.
The situation resulted in no goal being able to be produced by either team for them to step into the locker room without any goal advantage.
Nguyen Thinh Phat delighted the Vietnamese camp in the 29th minute after he calmly made a ‘turning’ following a long pass from Van Y which was then completed with an easy push to beat Myanmar goalkeeper Zwe Pyae Sone.
Shocked by the goal, Bunlert Charoenwong’s men streamlined the action and the Thai operator took a bold step by applying ‘powerplay’ tactics.
The gamble paid off after Khin Zaw Lin pushed the ball in when the match had only 38 seconds left for the winner to be determined through a penalty kick.
Ho Van Y emerged the hero for Vietnam after the goalkeeper denied Myanmar’s two early kicks taken by Myo Mint Soe and Aung Zin Oo while Tran Van Vu, Phan Doc Hua, Khong Dinh Hung and Nguyen Minh Tri excelled in completing the shots to bring Vietnam to Kuwait.
