College of Asian Scholars, a club from Thailand, won 1 final point after drawing with Taichung Bluewhale, the Chinese Taipei team with a score of 0-0 in the AFC Women’s Club Championship 2022 Pilot Tournament East Zone, 2nd match. at Chonburi Stadium.
Blue Whale came into the tie knowing only a win would secure them the title while for College of Asian Scholars, avoiding defeat would crown them champions.
College of Asian Scholars controlled the early tempo of the game and kept Blue Wave pinned in their own half, however the Chinese Taipei side almost caused problems for the Thailand side when they broke free in the seventh minute.
Blue Wave midfielder Silawan Intamee, who played a starring role in their 3-2 win over Myanmar’s ISPE WFC, caught College of Asian Scholars by surprise when she beat the offside trap and dribbled into the box but her cross was blocked by Phonphirun Philawan.
College of Asian Scholars then narrowly escaped another scare a minute later when captain Sunisa Srangthaisong was forced to intervene just above the area to foil Blue Wave’s Lai Li Chin, who charged forward after beating her marker.
College of Asian Scholars were equally wasteful with their chances with Tipkritta Onsamai sending her set-piece wide in the 13th minute, while Ploychompoo Somnonk failed to convert off Kanyanat Chetthabutr’s layoff 10 minutes later.
The best chance of the opening half fell to the Chinese Taipei side in the 24th minute when Chiang Tzu-shan sent Su Yu-hsuan through on goal but the Blue Wave No. 10 failed to beat College of Asian Scholars keeper Waraporn Boonsing, sending her lob off the mark.
Blue Wave had their first shot on target in the 33rd minute with Chiang Tzu-shan forcing a save from Waraporn, while Su Yu-hsuan hit her effort straight into the arms of the Thai custodian four minutes later.
College of Asian Scholars enjoyed the majority of possession in the second half and almost broke the deadlock at the hour-mark but Phonphirun just failed to angle her header off Ploychompoo’s corner.
Despite both team’s best efforts, the score remained goalless 0-0.
Summary of the results of the competition in the eastern zone College of Asian Scholars finished with 4 points from 2 games, but with a better goal difference than Taichung Bluewhale, resulting in College of Asian Scholars Successfully winning the Eastern Zone Championship and will wait to meet the champion team from the west zone in the final at 22 October.
