Sabah FC, a club from Malaysia, lost its first match after defeat to Hai Phong FC, a club from Vietnam, with a score of 2-3 in the AFC Cup 2023/24 Group Stage, Group H at Lach Tray Stadium, Hai Phong.
Sabah FC fell behind in the 14th minute through Nguyen Huu Son’s goal for Hai Phong FC lead 1-0.
Just four minutes later, Sabah’s goal gate controlled by Damien Lim leaked again and this time through Dam Tien Dung’s left foot shot.
The squad managed by Datuk Ong Kim Swee however tried to rise with several offensive moves and their efforts succeeded in the 71st minute when Ramon Machado completed Darren Lok’s pass.
The position only lasted a minute when Tien Dung scored Hai Phong’s third goal for the Vietnamese club to double their advantage again.
The intense match continued with Sabah getting another goal through a long range shot from substitute Gary Steven Robbat in the 80th minute.
However, this network was not enough for the Rhinoceros to avoid suffering their first defeat in three matches on the AFC Cup stage this season.
