Johor Darul Ta’Zim still secure an unbeaten record after beating Sri Pahang FC with a score of 2-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2023 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
The match almost came to fruition in the 11th minute when Bergson, who acted solo outside the penalty box, slid the ball right into the goal but was saved by the goalkeeper, Muhammad Zarif Irfan Hashimudddin.
Throughout the 30 minutes of the JDT midfield game, Leandro Velazquez, Afiq Fazail and Shio Hong Wan looked completely hopeless when they failed to deliver the right ball to the host’s attack line.
JDT’s best chance to frame the network came in the 40th minute after Matthew Davies’ cross kick on the right flank was struck by Afiq Fazail who shot the ball fast but Muhammad Zarif Irfan was ready to hold the ball.
When the action entered the last minute of the first half, the hosts finally broke the deadlock stemming from captain Jordi Amat’s stomach kick right at Forestieri in the penalty box acting quickly to pass the ball for Bergson to make the last stop killing Muhammad Zarif Irfan.
Continuing the second half, Solari’s proteges continued to put pressure on the defense of the Tok Gajah squad with a high-intensity style of play in an effort to add to the network.
However, the tactical changes to the game that Fandi made when playing ‘side by side’ in his own area seemed to make it difficult for JDT’s attack engines to make dangerous attempts.
JDT’s continued attempts to add to the net came in the 74th minute after Arif Aiman’s cross ball saw Forestieri, who were outside the penalty box, swing the ball straight into the left corner of the net beating Muhammad Zarif irfan while also completing the 13th league goal for the forward from the Argentinian.
Unfortunately for Oscar Arribas, who should have added to the net in the 83rd minute for JDT, but the fast ball in the penalty box just stopped at the left goalpost when Arif Aiman’s follow-up goal was prevented by the defenders of Sri Pahang FC and the 2-0 in favor of the Johor Darul Ta’Zim remained until the match ends.
