Johor Darul Ta’Zim still a lead the top of the table after winning over PJ City with a score of 4-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2022 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
In the match, JDT operator, Benjamin Mora maintained the same line-up when beating Selangor FC 5-1, last Friday and seemed to dominate the game as soon as the action started.
The first attempt by the Southern Tigers came as early as the fifth minute when Bergson Da Silva shot outside the penalty box right towards the right corner of the goal but PJ City FC goalkeeper, Kalamullah Al-Hafiz Mat Rowi managed to lie down to push the ball out.
Despite frequent pressure, PJ City FC took the opportunity through a counter-attack in the 19th minute when A Ashokan Pillay’s curling shot almost caught the goalkeeper, Farizal Marlias who had lost but the crossbar was the savior for JDT.
However, the hosts opened the scoring in the 22nd minute thanks to Leandro Velazquez’s pass which allowed Bergson to turn his body before firing the ball hard outside the penalty box.
As a result of a free kick in the 25th minute, the hosts took a 2-0 lead when Fernando Forestieri’s free kick headed right into the left corner of the net.
Velazquez should have been able to score the third goal for JDT with three minutes left before the end of the first half but the shot by the imported player from Argentina only stopped at the goal post when Kalamullah had lost.
Continuing the second half, Bergson missed the opportunity to score his second personal goal in the 53rd minute after a free kick from 25 meters just past the crossbar.
The hosts’ flurry of attacks ensured the visitors continued to suffer when Bergson completed a Forestieri pass in the 66th minute.
A mistake by a PJ City player who baited the ball back in the 86th minute allowed Bergson to snatch the ball before feeding to an uncontrolled Forestieri to push the ball in past Kalamullah.
