Malaysia Futsal National Team clinched victory in the last match after winning Timor-Leste Futsal National Team scoring 2-0 in the ASEAN Futsal Championship 2024 Group Stage, Group A at Terminal Hall in Terminal21 Korat Shopping Centre, Nakhonratchasima.
Though Malaysia faced early elimination in the group stage, they entered this game with determination to finish strong and secure three points.
The lineup, including key players like Syahir Iqbal, Danial Dain, Harith Naim, and Awalluddin Mat Nawi, saw Syawal Sabaruddin protecting the Malaysian goal. The match began with high intensity as Timor-Leste held their ground, managing to fend off Malaysia’s offensive push led by head coach Rakhpol Sainetngam’s strategy.
Malaysia took an early lead when Syahir Iqbal found the net in the 3rd minute, putting Malaysia ahead 1-0. Despite several attempts to extend their lead, Malaysia finished the first half maintaining a narrow advantage.
Returning from the break, Timor-Leste pressed for an equalizer but Malaysia’s defensive line, anchored by JDT stalwart Awalluddin Mat Nawi, held firm. Awalluddin then doubled the lead in the 30th minute, giving Malaysia a comfortable 2-0 advantage. The national team came close to adding another goal through Ridzwan Bakri, but the score remained unchanged.
The victory placed Malaysia third in Group A with six points, while Timor-Leste finished fourth with three points from four matches. Despite missing the knockout rounds, Malaysia’s final win serves as a positive end to their ASEAN Futsal Championship campaign.
