Malaysia Futsal National Team missed the point in this match after losing to Vietnam Futsal National Team scoring 0-2 in the ASEAN Futsal Championship 2024 at Terminal Hall in Terminal21 Korat Shopping centre, Nakhonratchasima.
Despite the defeat, Rakphol Sainetngam’s squad showed resilience, going toe-to-toe against a seasoned Vietnamese team that has previously competed on the Futsal World Cup stage.
Malaysia’s energetic playing style was evident as they pressed forward with intent, aiming to break through Vietnam’s defenses. However, Vietnam’s goalkeeper, Pham Van Tu, was quick and agile, denying multiple scoring opportunities from the Malaysian side.
Vietnam took the lead in the 27th minute when Tu Minh Quang converted a penalty, awarded after the ball struck Danial Dain’s hand inside the D area. Referee Wahyu Wicaksono from Indonesia pointed to the spot, giving Diego Raul Giustozzi’s side the advantage.
With Malaysia still unable to find the back of the net, Vietnam doubled their lead in the 34th minute when Nguyen Thinh Phat capitalized on a defensive error by Saad Sani. Despite a tactical shift to ‘Power Play’ late in the match, Malaysia couldn’t overcome Vietnam’s defense, sealing the 2-0 loss.
Looking ahead, Malaysia faces a challenging fixture against host nation Thailand in their next game, where only a victory will keep their hopes alive for a semifinal berth.
