Argentina national team keep victory in the opening match after victory over Canada national team scoring 2-0 in the Copa America 2024 Group Stage, Group A at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia.
Canada started the match with determination, soaking up Argentina’s pressure while creating several chances of their own. Their organized defense and quick counter-attacks posed challenges for the Argentine side.
Despite Canada’s solid defensive work, Argentina came close to scoring in the first half. Ángel Di María squandered a golden opportunity to put his team ahead, missing a crucial chance that would have given Argentina an early lead.
Argentina came out strong in the second half and broke the deadlock just four minutes after the restart. Lionel Messi, orchestrating the play, set up Julián Álvarez, who finished clinically to give Argentina a 1-0 lead.
Canada responded by increasing their pressure in search of an equalizer. However, Argentina’s defense, led by veteran center-back Nicolás Otamendi, provided stability and thwarted Canada’s attacking efforts.
In the 88th minute, substitute Lautaro Martínez secured Argentina’s victory by finishing a pass from Messi. Martínez’s goal cemented the 2-0 win and highlighted Argentina’s effective use of their attacking options.
