The organizing body of Amateur Football League (AFL) is sticking to their provisions to introduce the use of imported players for the 2024/25 season.
According to AFL Chairman Datuk Wira Yusoff Mahadi, the decision remains with several conditions placed on all Liga A1 Semi-Pro clubs that wish to obtain the services of imported players.
Among them is that all clubs are limited to a quota of two imported players per season. In addition, all imported players are subject to a ceiling salary of RM15,000 per person with strict conditions by the AFL.
In addition, the AFL also set the age limit for imported players to be up to 21 years. The decision was made to ensure that the country’s lower competition is not filled with imported players who are considered “older”.
“The AFL’s stipulation for clubs to hire imported players not over 21 years of age is to allow local players to compete because, on average, those who play in this league are young players.” said Yusoff.
“With the salary ceiling and age limit for imported players, it ensures that the club does not take 29, 30-year-old players who cost much more,”
