Vietnam Football Federation(VFF) has announced an official statement to sack Philippe Troussier, a French coach, age 69, from the head coach of the Vietnam national team after a match loss to the Indonesia national team 0-3 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 last night.
Troussier took on the position of head coach of the Vietnam national team in 2023 but performed poorly in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, being eliminated in the group stage with a record of losing all 3 matches and in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 2, Group F, which collected only 3 points from 4 matches, dropped to 3rd place in the group before being sacked from the position after the game lost at home to Indonesia national team 0-3 last night.
“Immediately after the second leg match between the Vietnam team and the Indonesia team, in the second qualifying round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asia region (evening of March 26, 2024), LDBDVN and head coach Philippe Troussier had a meeting,” VFF said in an official statement.
“Discuss the working process as head coach of the Vietnam team and the U23 Vietnam team. At the meeting, LDBDVN and Mr. Philippe Troussier agreed to terminate the contract on March 26, 2024.”
According to Troussier’s statistics, with the head coach of Vietnam national team since 2023, it is not considered a very good record. Because of controlling the team on the sidelines for all 14 matches, Vietnam won only 4 matches and lost 10 matches.
