The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has taken note of the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF)’s confirmation of the withdrawals of Shan United FC and Hantharwady United FC from the 2022 editions of the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup respectively.
Previously, Shan United FC were due to participate in the AFC Champions League 2022 Preliminary Stage and AFC Cup 2022 in Group H and Hantharwady United FC were recently drawn in Group I of the AFC Cup 2022.
For the reason that 2 teams from Myanmar not participate in the competition. due to domestic political problems. Making travel out of the country is still difficult during this time.
And with the withdrawal of Shan United, the team from Australia (Melbourne Victory/Central Coast Mariners) to face them. In the AFC Champions League 2022 qualifying round, they immediately qualified for the play-off round. Which will face Vissel Kobe from Japan on 15 March, and one position in the AFC Cup 2022 Group H is vacant.
As for the withdrawal of Hantharwady United, the position in Group I of the AFC Cup 2022 ASEAN zone is vacant and there may be two teams in the play-off round, “Visaka” (Cambodia) and “Young Elephant” (Laos) immediately qualified for the group stage.
