Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) head coach Xisco Munoz has made it clear that his side are fully prepared for every possible scenario, including extra time and a penalty shootout, as they gear up for the Piala FA Malaysia 2025/26 Final against Sabah FC tomorrow at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
The highly anticipated final will see the Southern Tigers face Sang Badak with JDT aiming to defend the FA Cup title they have held since 2022, further underlining their domestic dominance
Despite JDT’s pedigree, Xisco stressed that Sabah pose a serious threat. The East Malaysian side earned widespread praise after eliminating last season’s finalists Selangor via penalties, proving their composure under pressure.
As such, the Spanish tactician has urged his players to remain mentally and physically ready should the match stretch beyond 90 minutes.
“We always have to be prepared for all possibilities because anything can happen in a match,” said Xisco during Saturday’s pre-match press conference.
Xisco highlighted that JDT’s game plan will be shaped by match situations, with particular emphasis placed on the first 15 minutes — a crucial phase he believes can define the rhythm of the final.
“The most important thing is to make sure the team gives full energy from the first minute until the last,” he added.
“Right now, my focus is on the start of the match, especially the first 15 minutes.”
According to Xisco, finals are often decided by fine margins — the so-called “small games within the big game”.
“In every big match, there are always small battles inside it, and we need to control these situations well.
For me, that is the most important thing, and we must continue working to improve our performance.”
