Korea Republic national team took down to the top of the group after beating Jordan national team scoring 2-0 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 3 Group B at Amman International Stadium, Amman.
Jordan, energized by their home crowd, started the match on the front foot. In the fourth minute, Ehsan Haddad delivered a perfect cross to Mohannad Abu Taha, whose volley was denied by Korea Republic goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo, though the play was eventually flagged offside.
Korea Republic quickly responded, almost capitalizing on a defensive error by Yazan Al Arab. Hwang Hee-chan intercepted the poor clearance and set up Joo Min-kyu, but the forward missed the target. The early stages were frantic, with both sides trading chances. Jordan came close again when Ali Olwan found Mohammad Abuhasheesh in the box, but his shot hit the post.
As the game progressed, Korea Republic started to assert themselves. A deflected free-kick by Lee Kang-in was easily saved by Jordanian goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila. However, seconds later, Korea Republic found the breakthrough. Seol Young-woo sent in a pinpoint cross that found an unmarked Jae-sung, who headed the ball into the net in the 37th minute.
Jordan made attacking changes in the second half, with Yazan Al Naimat coming on and nearly making an impact. His shot was followed by Nizar Al Rashdan’s miss on the rebound. Jordan continued to push for an equalizer but squandered several chances, including a counter-attack where Al Naimat’s shot was blocked by Jo Hyeon-woo.
Korea Republic punished Jordan’s missed opportunities in the 68th minute. Oh Hyeon-gyu made a powerful run into the box before calmly finishing with a low shot to seal the 2-0 victory.
With this win, Korea Republic climbs to the top of Group B and will next face Iraq at home. Jordan will look to bounce back as they prepare to host Oman.
