China PR women’s U20 team launched their campaign in the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026 with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Vietnam women’s U20 national team in their opening Group A match at Nonthaburi PAO Stadium, Nonthaburi.
Just three minutes into the match, Le Hong Yeu launched a long aerial ball forward to Ngan Thi Thanh Hieu, whose left-footed strike from a tight angle sailed wide.
China PR gradually settled into the game and began testing the Vietnamese defence. In the 16th minute, Yu Xingyue forced a close-range save from goalkeeper Le Thi Thu, while the rebound from Wang Aifang was cleared by captain Nguyen Thi Thuy.
After sustained pressure, China PR finally found the breakthrough in the 39th minute.
Zheng Lu capitalised on a loose ball inside the penalty area and fired a powerful shot into the top corner to give her side the lead.
China doubled their advantage just before halftime when Yu Xingyue delivered a brilliant cross that Zheng finished clinically for her second goal of the match, sending the East Asian side into the break with a commanding 2-0 lead.
The second half saw China PR continue to dominate possession and attacking momentum.
Midfielder Li Ke tested the Vietnamese goalkeeper with a powerful long-range effort in the 48th minute, while defender Huang Jiaxin narrowly missed with a header moments later.
Vietnam attempted to respond midway through the half when An Hoang Cuc fired from outside the box, but Chinese goalkeeper Chen safely collected the effort.
China PR wrapped up the victory in the 77th minute when a free-kick from Wang Aifang was initially parried by the Vietnamese goalkeeper, but Zeng Yujia reacted quickest to the loose ball, finishing from close range to make it 3-0.
The result gives China PR a strong start to their campaign as they aim to reclaim the continental title.
China PR will face Bangladesh in their next Group A match, and Vietnam will look to recover when they meet hosts Thailand.
