Malaysia Men’s Badminton national team ended as semi-finalist and take a bronze medal after losing to China Men’s Badminton national team 1-3 pairs in the Thomas Cup 2024 Quarter-Final at Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre Gymnasium, Chengdu.
Singles player, Lee Zii Jia was unable to present the first point for the national camp after he lost a ‘straight set’ to Shi Yu Qi in 39 minutes.
Zii Jia initially gave quite a great competition in the first set with each other chasing points.
However, Yu Qi who is now the second ranked player in the world held on to win the first set with a 21-19 point gap.
Everything went wrong for Lee Zii Jia in the second set when he often made simple mistakes and it was quite difficult to match Yu Qi’s ability.
The situation allowed Shi Yu Qi to easily confirm the victory with a score of 21-5 to give China the first point.
Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik equalized after they surprised world number one pair Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang.
However, Chia-Soh lost the first set 15-21 before coming out more fiercely in the second set to win 21-12 to drag the action to the deciding set.
The action of the third set was full of excitement when both pairs were tied 15-15, but the 2022 world champion was more agile to win 21-17.
China then came back in front after the second singles, Li Shi Feng defeated Leong Jun Hao 21-17, 21-10.
The desire to see Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzudin Rumsani revive the chance for the national camp to drag the match to the third singles was not achieved when they lost to He Ji Ting-Ren Xiang Yu.
The defeat saw the national squad repeat the achievements of the 2016 edition and advance to the semi-finals of the Cup, while China will face Indonesia tomorrow.
