Malaysia’s men’s doubles contingent produced a mixed bag of results in the Round of 32 at the Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters 2026, with one seeded pair cruising through while others bowed out after gritty battles against higher-ranked opposition.
National pair Azriyn Ayub / Tan Wee Kiong showed their pedigree as the tournament’s fourth seeds, dispatching India’s P. Krishnamurthy Roy / Sai Pratheek K. in straight games, 22-20, 22-20.
Despite the close scorelines, the Malaysians were never flustered, keeping their composure at crucial points in both games to close out the contest efficiently and book their place in the next round.
One of the standout results of the day came from Chia Wei Jie / Lwi Sheng Hao, who pulled off a notable upset against eighth seeds He Zhi-Wei / Huang Jui-Hsuan.
After dropping the opening game 18-21, the Malaysian duo regrouped superbly, dictating the pace and tightening their defence to clinch the next two games 21-13, 21-16 — a performance that underlined their growing confidence on the World Tour stage.
It was a painful exit for Choi Sol Gyu / Goh V Shem, who fought valiantly but fell to Indonesia’s fifth-seeded Muhammad Rian Ardianto / Rahmat Hidayat 21-15, 12-21, 18-21. After taking the first game, the Malaysian–Korean pairing struggled to maintain momentum as their opponents raised the intensity in the latter stages.
Meanwhile, Low Hang Yee / Ng Eng Cheong saw their campaign end at the hands of Thailand’s P. Kaosamaang / Tanadon Punpanich, going down 21-13, 19-21, 19-21 in another closely contested encounter where fine margins proved decisive.
While only two Malaysian pairs progressed, the overall performances reflected depth and competitiveness within the men’s doubles department, with several matches decided by narrow margins against seeded and home-favourite opponents.
