MotoGP competition in Thailand faces an uncertain future as Newin Chidchob, the president of Chang International Circuit, has confirmed that 2026 will be the final year of the event unless the government renews the contract.
The announcement was made through the official Facebook page, where he expressed deep regret over the decision.
“I have just received official information from the Sports Authority of Thailand, confirming the same news that MotoGP fans have feared—the government will invest in organizing MotoGP in 2026 for the last time and will not renew the contract thereafter. We must accept the government’s decision.
Although this is deeply regrettable, as the government invests no more than 500 million baht per year, while the private sector contributes no less than 300 million baht per year, this event generates over 5,000 million baht in revolving funds, stimulating businesses and boosting the economy.
However, since the government has made its decision, Chang International Circuit, as a key supporter, must accept it. We want to inform Thai MotoGP fans that next year will be the final Thai GP if the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the government do not reconsider and insist on not renewing the contract.
Thank you to everyone who has helped make ThaiGP a globally recognized event.
See you in 2026 at Chang International Circuit, Buriram. Let’s come together to cheer and celebrate MotoGP one last time.”
MotoGP event at Chang International Circuit in Buriram Province has been a major success since its inaugural race in 2018. Over the past seven years, it has been held six times, with exceptions in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event has played a crucial role in boosting Thailand’s global sporting reputation, attracting thousands of local and international fans annually.
The decision to end Thailand’s MotoGP hosting contract comes despite substantial economic benefits. Each year, the event has injected billions of baht into local businesses, hotels, restaurants, and tourism-related sectors. Many stakeholders, including businesses and racing enthusiasts, are urging the government to reconsider the cancellation, citing its massive financial and promotional value.
However, Dr.Kongsak Yodmanee, Governer of Sports Authority of Thailand(SAT) has spoken about this, and confirmed SAT have a plan to extended contract with Dorna Sport, but need to wait a decision from the Thailand government.
