Thailand’s government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, announced the grand opening of the PT Grand Prix of Thailand 2025, a landmark event marking the first MotoGP season opener in Southeast Asia in 25 years.
The announcement comes with a promise of an unforgettable motorsport experience, a showcase of Thailand’s cultural charm, and a celebration of the nation’s growing presence on the global sporting stage.
At a press conference held at CW Tower, Ratchadaphisek, Bangkok, Mr. Kritsada Tantherdthit, Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, revealed Thailand’s immense pride in hosting the MotoGP 2025 Season Premier for two consecutive years, 2025 and 2026.
The event will feature three key activities that motorsport enthusiasts worldwide eagerly anticipate:
- Season Premier Launch Event in Bangkok on February 9, 2025.
- Pre-Season Testing at the Chang International Circuit, Buriram, from February 12–13, 2025.
- Main Race Weekend from February 28 to March 2, 2025.
This will be Thailand’s sixth time hosting MotoGP, but its first as the season-opening event, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a global hub for motorsports. The event is expected to attract over 200,000 spectators and generate significant economic benefits, building on the 4.75 billion baht(RM617.46 Million) impact from last year’s competition.
One of the most anticipated moments of the season will be Somkiat Chantra, Thailand’s first-ever MotoGP-class rider, competing on home soil. Fans across the country are thrilled to witness this historic milestone, as Somkiat’s participation highlights Thailand’s progress in developing world-class athletes.

Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, remarked:
“Somkiat’s entry into MotoGP is the pinnacle of Thailand’s motorsports achievements. His journey will inspire the next generation and encourage more young athletes to pursue this sport.”
The Chang International Circuit in Buriram, known for its world-class facilities, will transform into a motorsport festival filled with activities like Hero Walks, Meet-and-Greets, and Thai cultural showcases. Fans can also enjoy live performances at the Chang Music Connection stage and explore the Thai Thai Pavilion featuring local traditions and delicacies.
Mr. Marcos Torroba, Race Manager of Dorna Sports, praised Thailand’s dedication:
“Thailand’s passion for MotoGP is unmatched. From its state-of-the-art circuit to the enthusiastic fans, this event will solidify Thailand as a premier motorsport destination.”
