Kuala Lumpur City, a club from Malaysia kept the first 3 points in the opening match after beating Kaya FC, a club from Philippines scoring 1-0 in the ACC Shopee Cup 2024/25 Group Stage, Group A at KLFA Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
KL City took the lead early in the 11th minute through young star and national player Haqimi Azim Rosli. His goal gave KL City the advantage heading into halftime.
In the second half, Miroslav Kuljanac’s squad nearly doubled their lead in the 66th minute, but captain Paulo Josue’s close-range effort was brilliantly saved by Kaya goalkeeper Patrick Deyto.
Despite controlling much of the play and creating more chances, KL City couldn’t add to their lead. However, their solid defense ensured the 1-0 scoreline remained until the final whistle, securing all three points for the home side.
This victory provides some relief for KL City, who have been struggling in the Super League, compounded by a six-point deduction imposed by the First Instance Body (FIB) on August 5 due to discrepancies in their club licensing process.
KL City will face Indonesian side Borneo FC next on September 26.
