Selangor were held to a 0-0 draw by Asia Warriors FC in a spirited and high-intensity pre-season friendly at the MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
The clash between Selangor and Asia Warriors delivered a thrilling display from both sides, despite being a warm-up match ahead of Selangor’s 2025/26 season curtain-raiser against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in the Piala Sumbangsih.
Selangor fielded goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz between the posts, while national winger Faisal Halim donned the captain’s armband. Asia Warriors, meanwhile, featured an experienced backline led by former Singapore international Baihakki Khaizan, with former Japanese star Keisuke Honda captaining the side.
The first half was played at an electrifying tempo, with both teams pressing high and creating chances. In the dying moments of the half, Brazilian striker Willian Lira came close to breaking the deadlock, but his powerful effort was superbly denied by the Asia Warriors goalkeeper.
Despite the high tempo and attacking intent, the first 45 minutes ended scoreless, thanks to disciplined defending and solid goalkeeping on both ends.
Asia Warriors came out firing in the second half, with Keisuke Honda nearly giving his side the lead with a curling free-kick from outside the box that narrowly missed the target.
As the match wore on into the final 10 minutes, both sides continued to search for the elusive goal, exchanging attacks and pushing forward aggressively. However, resolute defending and missed chances meant neither team could find the back of the net.
The final whistle confirmed a goalless draw, but the match was anything but dull. With intense play, star-studded line-ups, and flashes of individual brilliance, it served as a valuable test for Selangor ahead of their upcoming campaign.
