Malaysia’s men’s basketball team sent a strong early message at the 2025 SEA Games, launching their title redemption campaign in emphatic fashion with an 89–63 victory over Vietnam on Saturday.
After a tightly contested opening quarter, the Malaysians steadily imposed their authority, tightening defensively and accelerating the tempo to pull away decisively as the game progressed
Vietnam edged the opening quarter, but Malaysia responded with a commanding second period, flipping the momentum before halftime. From there, it was one-way traffic as Malaysia dominated the paint, forced turnovers, and punished their opponents in transition.
The third quarter proved decisive, with Malaysia stretching their lead through disciplined ball movement and relentless defensive pressure. By the final quarter, the gap was too wide for Vietnam to bridge as Malaysia closed out the contest with composure and confidence.
The convincing win provides the perfect platform for Malaysia as they look to reclaim regional supremacy. More importantly, it showcased balance, depth, and maturity — key ingredients for a long tournament run.
With momentum now firmly on their side, Malaysia will head into their next SEA Games assignment full of belief, knowing that their redemption journey has begun in convincing fashion.
