National men’s doubles aces Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik booked their place in the SEA Games badminton individual final in emphatic fashion, becoming the second Malaysian pair to reach the title match after dismantling Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando–Maulana Bagas in the semi-finals today.
Displaying total control from the opening rally, the world-class Malaysian duo needed just 33 minutes to seal a dominant 21-10, 21-12 victory, once again underlining their superiority over the Indonesian pair. The win extended Aaron–Wooi Yik’s perfect record to three wins from three meetings against Leo–Bagas.
True to their billing as gold medal favourites, Aaron–Wooi Yik never allowed their opponents to settle, combining pace, power and precision to dictate the tempo throughout the match.
The reigning SEA Games champions from the 2021 edition are now just one win away from successfully defending their crown and adding another major honour to their glittering résumé.
Standing between the Malaysians and gold will be another Indonesian pair, Sabar Karyaman Gutama–Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, who advanced after edging out fellow Malaysians Man Wei Chong–Tee Kai Wun in a hard-fought semi-final.
While Wei Chong–Kai Wun bowed out, Malaysia remain firmly in contention for the top prize as Aaron–Wooi Yik carry the nation’s hopes into the final.
With experience, pedigree and momentum firmly on their side, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik are perfectly poised to deliver yet another SEA Games gold medal for Malaysia, reinforcing their status as one of the country’s most reliable performers on the regional stage.
