Brad Maloney, head coach of Malaysia U23, decided not to list senior players for the 2021 SEA Games men’s football competition at Hanoi, Vietnam in May.
SEA Games 2021 men’s football competition allow each team to list 2 overage players of 23 players squad to strengthen their defensive or offensive position.
“Although each team is allowed to register two older players, we will not take that option. I want to prepare players for the AFC U23 Asian Cup.” Maloney, said with NST.
“If we can get key players, we can get good results in the SEA Games. However, to make it happen, we need the cooperation of the Malaysian League team. Discussions with the club were very positive.”

In the men’s football competition of the SEA Games 2021, Malaysia was draw in group B with Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore and Laos PDR.
