Johor Darul Ta’Zim take advantage in first leg after defeating Kelantan FC with a score of 3-0 in the TM Piala Malaysia 2022 Quarter-Final round 1st leg at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, Kota Bharu.
The victory also saw the JDT now one step towards the semi-finals with the reciprocal action taking place at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, this Friday.
JDT who did not list several important milestones in the first team including Natxo Insa and Fernando Forestieri were in front in the 29th minute past Bergson Da Silva’s net which headed home a Leandro Velazquez corner.
Eight minutes later, Syafiq Ahmad kept the position for JDT if the national striker was wise to finish Afiq Fazail’s side delivery.
Although Kelantan was seen trying to get up in the second half, JDT, who also won the Malaysia Cup last season, was more comfortable when Velazquez scored the third goal in the 73rd minute.
Malang hit the Southern Tigers if they were forced to play with 10 players after Afiq was sent a red card after receiving a second yellow card in the 76th minute.
However, the Kelantan FC failed to use that opportunity to at least close the position and the 3-0 decision in favor of JDT remained until the end.
