Datuk Noor Azman Rahman, FAM secretary-general, has confirmed that the VAR will not be used for Liga Malaysia this year.
Previously, Malaysian Football League (MFL) planned to introduce VAR in the Piala Malaysia 2023 final, with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) in charge of conducting courses for local referees.
“VAR will be only used next year. MFL has notified us that it will not be utilized this year. However, we have started training VAR referees,” Azman said.
“We will not it in the Malaysia Cup final. For next year, we do not yet have the exact date of its implementation.”
MFL chief executive officer Datuk Stuart Ramalingam said the VAR system will cost RM9.7 million in the first year of implementation.
The amount will cover the first year of VAR utilisation. MFL will be using a portable VAR system, which will be installed on match days.
MFL will start with the six-camera VAR system and hopes to use it in all 240 Liga Super Malaysia matches next season.
