Johor Darul Ta’Zim near to secure the spot of semi-final after beating Malaysian University, a club from Liga A1 Semi-pro scoring 5-0 in the Piala FA Malaysia 2024/25 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
Head Coach Hector Bidoglio utilized the match to give opportunities to several new players, including Ramadhan Saifullah, Mohammad Sumareh, Safiq Rahim, Natxo Insa, and Junior Eldstal.
The first half saw JDT dominate possession, with La’Vere Corbin-Ong’s goal being the only difference between the two sides.
In the second half, JDT intensified their efforts, and substitute Francisco Geraldes doubled their lead with a well-taken goal. Geraldes scored again to make it 3-0, followed by Shahrul Saad’s header for the fourth goal, easily beating Malaysian University’s goalkeeper, Ashraf Fadhli.
JDT continued their scoring spree, with Safiq Rahim delivering a beautiful pass that Corbin-Ong set up for Romel Morales, who finished neatly in the 80th minute to make it 5-0.
The return leg between the two teams will take place on July 5, 2024, to determine who advances to the semi-finals.
