Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) continued their march toward another Piala FA Malaysia 2025/26 after sealing a dominant 3–0 victory over Penang FC in the quarter-final second leg at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
As expected, the Southern Tigers showcased their attacking firepower with Bergson da Silva and Jairo da Silva leading the front line, supported by Spanish playmaker Nacho Méndez. Meanwhile, Penang placed their hopes on goalkeeper Ramadhan Abd Hamid, who faced a relentless onslaught from the defending champions.
Despite JDT’s early dominance, Penang’s defense held firm until the 38th minute, when Bergson broke the deadlock. The Brazilian striker pounced on a rebound after Méndez’s powerful strike was parried into his path, coolly slotting the ball home to make it 1–0.
Just five minutes later, the hosts doubled their advantage. Jonathan Silva finished off a flowing team move with a precise finish from close range, sending the home fans into jubilation as JDT went 2–0 up.
The relentless pressure continued, and deep into first-half stoppage time, Eddy Israfilov added a third goal with a well-timed strike, putting JDT firmly in control before the interval.
The second half saw JDT manage the tempo confidently, maintaining possession and denying Penang any real chance to fight back. With the tie effectively settled, head coach Héctor Bidoglio used the opportunity to rotate his squad, keeping key players fresh ahead of their semi-final showdown.
At full-time, the scoreboard read JDT 3–0 Penang, confirming a comprehensive 5–1 aggregate victory for the reigning champions.
The emphatic result saw JDT advance 5–1 on aggregate, ending Penang’s run in this season’s competition and setting up a mouthwatering semi-final clash with Kuching City.
