Malaysia’s independent shuttler Lee Zii Jia saw his campaign at the Orléans Masters Badminton 2026 come to an early end after falling in the qualifying round despite a strong opening performance.
Lee began his qualifying journey on a positive note, defeating India’s S. Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian in straight games 21–12, 21–18. The Malaysian displayed good rhythm and control, dictating rallies with his trademark attacking play to comfortably advance to the next stage.
However, the challenge intensified in the decisive qualifying match against China’s Dong Tian Yao.
Lee struggled to maintain momentum as Dong imposed a fast-paced, aggressive game. The Chinese shuttler took control of crucial exchanges and closed out the match in straight games 21–18, 21–14, denying Lee a place in the main draw.
The defeat means Lee Zii Jia exits the tournament at the qualifying stage, marking a setback in his European campaign on the BWF World Tour.
