Selangor FC head coach Nidzam Jamil is determined to secure a vital point as his team prepares to kick off their AFC Champions League Two 2024/25 Group Stage campaign in Group H tomorrow.
Facing Thai powerhouse Muangthong United, Selangor is set to make its mark on the Asian stage against a team with a strong footballing pedigree.
“The team morale is excellent,” Nidzam said. “Only two players are out due to injury, but the rest of the squad is fit and ready for the challenge in Thailand.”
Muangthong United, historically one of Thailand’s biggest clubs, has experienced recent struggles but remains a formidable force in the region. Nidzam acknowledged their resurgence and praised their return to Asian competition.
“Muangthong has been a top team in Thailand for the past decade. They’ve faced some setbacks recently, but congratulations to them for making it back to the Asian stage,” he remarked.
Nidzam is confident that Selangor’s familiarity with Thai football will be a significant advantage heading into the match.
“We’re well aware of the style and quality of Thai football, not just Muangthong, but also teams like Buriram United and Bangkok United. I’ve personally followed Muangthong for the past 10 years. The football culture here is strong, and their results have been impressive over that period.”
Looking ahead to tomorrow’s clash, Nidzam emphasized the unique challenge his team will face against one of Thailand’s best.
“Tomorrow will be a different experience for us, as we’re up against a highly respected opponent in Muangthong,” he added.
