Selangor FC’s head coach, Nidzam Jamil, is encouraged by the positive progress shown by Faisal, also known as ‘Mickey,’ and sees it as a promising sign for both the club and the Malaysia national team.
Faisal made his first appearance in the Liga Super Malaysia this season after a 97-day hiatus due to an unfortunate incident in early May, where he was a victim of an acid attack. Nidzam acknowledges the challenges Faisal has faced and emphasizes that the 26-year-old player still needs time to fully regain his form.
“What he experienced was ‘crazy.’ I met with him, and I know what he went through, both physically and mentally. He wanted to play, so we gave him 10 minutes, and I believe these minutes will aid his development,” Nidzam remarked.
Nidzam is realistic about the situation, understanding that while this time on the field won’t immediately resolve everything, it will contribute to Faisal’s growth, benefiting both Selangor and the national team.
He also pointed out that despite the challenges, Faisal came close to scoring, with one of his attempts hitting the crossbar. “There may be some rust in his performance, but that’s expected for someone who has gone through such a traumatic experience. My responsibility is to help him shake off that rust and ensure he has the right mindset to continue improving,” Nidzam concluded.
