Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia (MBS) hopes that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will study and find the cause of how a team that is often beaten like Laos managed to surprise the national squad to advance to the semi-finals of the AFF U23 Championship 2022.
Malaysia U23 squad (B-23) had to eliminated from the AFF U23 Championship 2022 when they lost 0-2 to Laos yesterday. This is the country’s second defeat in the last seven meetings against Laos in the U23 tournament since 2014.
“I feel that all parties involved in football need to find a way and work hard to restore the glory of football in the country,” MBS Minister said with Bernama
“Simply by changing the coach, management or FAM President, it does not make any sense if the whole ecosystem in the sport is not corrected. So to correct, we start from ourselves, as supporters also see the matter in a way that can help, not oppose or damage,”
A part from the Malaysia U23 squad, the senior team of Malaysia also failed in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 at Singapore in last December, forcing the FAM to set up an independent committee of inquiry to investigate the cause of the failure.
