Selangor FC earned 3 points in their home after beating Sri Pahang FC scoring 2-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
It took just 14 minutes for Selangor to break the deadlock when Ali Olwan made a brilliant solo run, slicing through Sri Pahang’s defense before firing past goalkeeper Zarif Irfan Hashimuddin.
The Red Giants extended their lead in the 39th minute with a precise finish by Ronnie Fernandez, assisted by a clever pass from Quentin Cheng, giving Selangor a comfortable 2-0 advantage going into halftime.
In the 56th minute, Olwan seemed to have scored Selangor’s third goal, but it was disallowed after referee Zamzaidi Katimin consulted the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). The review revealed a handball by Quentin Cheng before the pass to Olwan.
Despite several attempts, Sri Pahang failed to find the back of the net. Kpah Sherman came closest with a curling effort in the 65th minute that narrowly missed the target.
Selangor FC now sits in second place with 42 points after 19 matches, though still 13 points behind leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT). And the victory also puts them 10 points ahead of third-placed Sabah, who have two matches in hand.
Sri Pahang remains in 11th position, having collected just 16 points from 17 matches.
This triumph was Selangor’s 13th league win, underscoring their ambition to maintain pressure on JDT as the season progresses.
