Selangor FC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Negeri Sembilan to hand The Jangs their second consecutive defeat in the Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
Backed by a strong home crowd at Stadium Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya, Selangor fielded Kalamullah Al-Hafiz between the posts, with Faisal Halim wearing the captain’s armband and Brazilian forward Chrigor Moraes leading the attack.
Selangor dominated possession early on and threatened in the 20th minute when Faisal Halim unleashed a dangerous effort that narrowly missed the target. Six minutes later, Quentin Cheng came close to breaking the deadlock, but his powerful strike was bravely blocked by Negeri Sembilan’s new defensive signing, Kei Oshiro.
Despite Selangor’s control, the visitors showed flashes of threat. A. Selvan tested Kalamullah with a well-struck attempt, though the Selangor goalkeeper was equal to the task. Tensions rose late in the half when Joseph Esso picked up the first yellow card of the match in the 42nd minute for a robust challenge on Mukhairi Ajmal.
The opening 45 minutes ended goalless, with Selangor on top but still searching for a breakthrough.
The Red Giants emerged with renewed intensity after the break and were finally rewarded in the 61st minute. Nooa Laine found the net with a composed finish, sparking celebrations among the home supporters and easing pressure on the Selangor bench.
Negeri Sembilan pushed for an equaliser, with Luqman Hakim coming close in the 74th minute, only to be denied by resolute defending. The visitors’ last big chance arrived late on when Mio Tsuneyasu struck from inside the box in the 85th minute, but Kalamullah once again proved decisive with a crucial save.
The narrow win sees Selangor climb to second place with 31 points, strengthening their position in the title race. Negeri Sembilan, meanwhile, remain sixth on 17 points, as concerns grow following back-to-back defeats.
Attention now turns to the Piala Malaysia 2025/26 Round of 16. Selangor will face Kelantan TRW in the first leg on 19 January, while Negeri Sembilan are set to take on Imigresen on 17 January.
