Selangor FC were left frustrated on home soil after being held to a 0-0 draw by Kuala Lumpur City in a tightly contested Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 fixture at the MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
The match, though lacking goals, was filled with intensity as both sides showcased tactical discipline and strong defensive organisation from start to finish.
Head coach Christophe Gamel fielded Sikh Izhan in goalkeeper, with Faisal Halim wearing the captain’s armband and Chrigor Moraes leading the attack. The Red Giants started on the front foot, launching multiple dangerous attempts in the opening stages.
Despite dominating possession and territory, Selangor found KL City goalkeeper Quincy Kammeraad in superb form, denying several close-range efforts that could have changed the game’s momentum.
On the opposite end, KL City, led by Kpah Sherman upfront, opted for a compact, defensive approach — frustrating the Selangor forwards who struggled to penetrate their well-organized backline.
The first half saw a few half-chances for both sides but ended goalless, with neither team managing to capitalize on extended stoppage time.
After the break, KL City began to grow in confidence, showing more attacking intent through Safawi Rasid and Ryan Lambert. Their best opportunity came in the 66th minute, when Safawi’s curling free-kick flew just wide of the Selangor post.
The visitors continued pressing for an opener in the following 10 minutes, but Sikh Izhan stood tall, pulling off a string of crucial saves to keep Selangor level.
Selangor nearly broke the deadlock in the 75th minute, when Faisal Halim found space inside the penalty box, but his effort was blocked by Kammeraad, who continued to prove the difference for KL City.
In the closing minutes, Selangor maintained pressure, hoping for a late winner, yet their finishing touch continued to elude them. The final whistle confirmed a 0-0 stalemate, earning each side a point in what was a tactical and physically demanding contest.
The result leaves Selangor frustrated as they missed the opportunity to close the gap on the top of the table, while KL City will be pleased to have taken a valuable away point against one of the league’s top contenders.
