Selangor FC produced a commanding performance on Wednesday night, defeating Terengganu FC 5-2 in front of their home supporters at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
The Red Giants fielded goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz, Brazilian striker Chrigor Moraes as the attacking spearhead, and Richmond Ankrah in defense. Terengganu, meanwhile, lined up with Suhaimi Husin between the posts, Careca leading the attack, and captain Shahrul Nizam marshalling the side.
From the opening whistle, Selangor came out firing, determined to seize an early advantage. Their breakthrough arrived in the 17th minute when Chrigor Moraes rose highest to nod home a precise header past Suhaimi Husin.
Seven minutes later, Alvin Fortes doubled the lead with a thunderous strike inside the penalty area, putting the visitors firmly on the back foot.
Selangor’s dominance continued, and Moraes struck again in the 36th minute, finishing clinically to make it 3-0. Deep into first-half stoppage time, the Brazilian completed his hat-trick — his first for Selangor — giving the hosts an unassailable 4-0 lead at the interval.
Terengganu showed more fight after the restart, pressing for a way back into the match. Their persistence paid off in the 70th minute when substitute Gabriel Silva converted from the penalty spot after Shahrul Nazeem conceded a foul in the box.
The visitors reduced the deficit further in the 81st minute when Junior Sam slotted home from close range to make it 4-2, sparking hopes of a late comeback.
However, Selangor sealed the night emphatically in stoppage time as substitute Aliff Izwan smashed in their fifth goal, sending the home crowd into raptures.
The final whistle confirmed a 5-2 triumph for Selangor, who will next face Malaysia University in the FA Cup second round. Terengganu, on the other hand, will look to regroup ahead of their FA Cup tie against Imigresen on September 13.
