Selangor FC is still in 2nd rank after beating Penang FC with a score of 3-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2023 at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
In the first action, SFC took more control of the game but failed to overcome the stronghold of Penang FC, who defended themselves with discipline and did not give the hosts much space.
This forced SFC to launch a long try when they found space but it was fruitless after Ayron del Valle’s rebound in the 15th minute and Brendan Gan went missing three minutes later.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 28th minute following a quick counter-attack which was ended by Noor Al Rawabdeh’s fast clearance killing Muhammad Azfar Arif Mohd Sukri.
Adriano Narcizo’s free kick in the 40th minute was saved by Sam Sommerville before Penang FC’s follow-up effort sent Sharul Nazeem Zulpakar over the line for SFC to continue with a goal advantage.
Continuing the second half, Hadin Azman missed the opportunity to score Penang FC’s equalizing goal after his move was successfully bypassed by Safuwan Baharudin in the penalty box in the 49th minute.
New SFC striker Richmond Boakye finally opened his goal account from Yohandry Orozco’s goal in the 58th minute before Faisal Halim added to Penang FC’s misery with a third goal in the 77th minute.
