Kuching City could face a possible forfeit after a late-match substitution controversy in their recent Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 clash against Penang FC on 14 March.
The Sarawak-based side had originally secured a 1-0 away victory, with Gabriel Nistelrooy scoring the decisive goal in the 40th minute.
The issue emerged after the match, when fans identified a potential irregularity involving Kuching City’s substitution.
In the 90th minute, Filipino player Scott Woods was introduced to replace Joao Pedro. However, reports indicate that Woods’ name was not included on the official matchday substitute list, raising questions about player eligibility and compliance with match regulations.
If confirmed, the situation could constitute a breach of league rules regarding team sheet registration and player participation.
Following the incident, Penang FC has formally filed an official complaint with the Malaysian Football League (MFL).
In a statement, the club confirmed that they are aware of the allegations and are now awaiting a response and further action from the league authorities.
Should the complaint be upheld, Kuching City could face serious consequences, including a forfeit result (0-3 defeat), and possible fines or disciplinary action
Such a decision would significantly impact the club’s position in the league standings, especially amid an already tight title race.
