Johor Darul Ta’Zim still secure a top position after beating Penang FC scoring 5-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
Head coach Hector Bidoglio fielded new imports Enzo Lombardo, Iker Undabarrena, Eddy Israfilov, and Jorge Obregon to strengthen the squad.
JDT wasted no time, with Oscar Arribas opening the scoring in the third minute after a precise long pass from Natxo Insa.
In the 40th minute, Arif Aiman’s clever play set up Izzat Zikri, who quickly passed to Obregon for a strong finish, marking Obregon’s debut goal for JDT.
JDT missed a penalty just before halftime when Arif Aiman’s shot went over the bar after Rafael Vitor fouled Obregon in the box.
However, Obregon added his second goal in the 48th minute, capitalizing on a rebound from Juan Muniz’s shot.
VAR was used twice, leading to two more penalties. The first, in the 60th minute, was awarded after Richmond Ankrah fouled Bergson Da Silva, with Bergson calmly converting it in the 65th minute.
The second, during injury time, saw Arif Aiman redeem his earlier miss by slotting home another penalty after Adib Abdul Ra’op fouled Syahmi Safari.
JDT’s win boosts the squad’s morale ahead of their upcoming Asian Champions League Elite (ACLE) match against Shanghai Port FC in China this Tuesday.
