Melaka United collect 3 points after opening home beating Selangor FC with a score 2-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2022 at Hang Jebat Stadium, Melaka.
However, the action of the match was less interesting during the first 26 minutes of the game without a dangerous attempt from both teams with the movement of the ball much more hovering in the middle of the field.
Although the hosts and visitors tried to enter the penalty box but the movement of their attackers was often blocked by the good control of the defensive wall of both teams.
However, when Selangor did more, Melaka took the opportunity to move from the right side of the opponent’s goal through a Sony Norde cross which was completed well by Ifedayo to reward the hosts’ opening goal.
The goal in the 39th minute, however, clearly burned the spirit of the visitors to chase the equalizer but Mukhairi Ajmal’s free kick in the 41st minute failed to be greeted by Herlison Caion.
Continuing the second half, Selangor continued to try to find an equalizer but Quentin Cheng’s attempt in the 50th minute went straight into the arms of Melaka goalkeeper, See Tian Keat.
As a result, Ifedayo managed to score the second goal of the Hang Tuah squad after receiving a long pass in the 57th minute to beat the Selangor defense and then dribbled the goalkeeper, Samuel Somerville for his second goal in the match.
The victory allows Melaka to be ranked eighth in the league while Selangor is ranked seventh with 12 points each.
