Malaysian badminton ace Lee Zii Jia has been forced to pull out of three major tournaments this month after being advised by medical experts to undergo an extended rehabilitation program for persistent low back pain.
According to an official statement released by Team LZJ, the world-class shuttler will miss the Denmark Open, French Open, and HYLO Open, all scheduled in October. The decision comes after ongoing discomfort that has hindered his performance and required immediate medical attention.
“Lee Zii Jia has been advised by a medical expert to undergo an extended rehabilitation program for persistent low back pain,” the statement confirmed.
The year 2025 has proven to be one of the toughest in Lee’s career. Despite his injuries, he has continued to push himself, but the team emphasized that his health and long-term career prospects must take priority.
“2025 has indeed been a challenging season for Zii Jia, but his determination to overcome the challenges and support from fans as well as sponsors has been a huge motivational strength,” Team LZJ stated.
Supporters and sponsors have remained firmly behind the national star, with many praising his resilience and commitment to return stronger. Lee Zii Jia has long been regarded as Malaysia’s top men’s singles hope on the international stage, carrying the nation’s expectations after the retirement of Datuk Lee Chong Wei.
The statement reassured fans that updates will be provided on his rehabilitation progress, while extending gratitude to the badminton community for their “unconditional support.”
While his absence from the European tournaments is a blow to his season’s campaign, the priority remains ensuring a full recovery ahead of upcoming competitions, including preparations for the 2026 badminton calendar and Malaysia’s long-term international ambitions.
“We fight through setbacks together,” Team LZJ said in closing, reflecting the determination of Lee Zii Jia and his camp to overcome this challenging phase.
