Kedah Darul Aman FC (KDA FC) is facing a race against time to preserve its place in the Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26, with a staggering RM7 million in outstanding wages threatening to derail their future in top-flight football.
The long-standing club, affectionately known as Sang Kenari, has been the subject of intense speculation from fans and football figures alike over their status for the upcoming season. Despite public declarations from the management affirming their commitment to remain in the league, off-pitch issues continue to cast a shadow over the team.
Now, Astro Arena journalist Fina Nasrom has revealed that the Malaysian Football League (MFL) has issued a clear ultimatum: settle all salary arrears by April 30, 2025, or face the consequences.
“The final deadline for Kedah to resolve salary payments up to December 2024, amounting to more than RM7 million, is April 30. That’s the MFL’s final call. If it’s not met, Kedah’s future next season will be answered,” Fina wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The wage backlog dates back to December 2024, and sources indicate that several players and staff have yet to receive their dues. While KDA FC has soldiered on through the 2024/25 campaign, the pressure is mounting both on and off the pitch.
This alarming development comes amid growing concerns over financial transparency and stability within Malaysian club football. For a club with a rich history and passionate fanbase, the current situation marks a potential turning point — either towards redemption or relegation.
On the pitch, Kedah showed flashes of resilience in their latest fixture, drawing 1-1 against Sabah FC at the Stadium Darul Aman on April 12. A penalty from Amirul Hisyam Awang Kechik gave the home side an early lead before Darren Lok rescued a point for the visitors.
The draw leaves Sabah FC in third with 40 points, while Kedah remains 11th with 21 points, dangerously close to the relegation zone.
With just over two weeks remaining until the April 30 deadline, the fate of KDA FC now hangs in the balance. Failure to meet the financial obligations could lead to expulsion from the league, administrative penalties, or forced relegation — a devastating blow for a club of Kedah’s stature.
The next few days will be critical. Fans, players, and stakeholders will be watching closely as the clock ticks toward a decision that could define Kedah’s future in Malaysian football.
