Johor Darul Ta’zim have once again etched their name in Asian football history after being crowned Southeast Asia’s best club in the latest Opta Power Rankings, released by The Analyst on August 29, 2025.
The Southern Tigers were ranked 207th in the world and an impressive 8th in Asia, placing them shoulder-to-shoulder with continental giants such as Al Hilal, Urawa Red Diamonds, and Ulsan Hyundai.
“For us, it is a proud moment to see Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) ranked 207th in the world, 8th in Asia and first in Southeast Asia based on the Opta Power Ranking,” the club announced on social media, celebrating the milestone on August 30.
The Opta system assessed nearly 13,500 clubs worldwide, yet no other Malaysian side managed to break into the top 1,000—a testament to JDT’s unrivalled rise. Their nearest domestic rival, Selangor FC, were placed at a distant 1,256th globally, while Thailand’s Buriram United, the next highest-ranked Southeast Asian club, failed to make Asia’s top 20.
This recognition reflects JDT’s remarkable dominance at home and abroad. Having secured 11 consecutive Malaysia Super League titles, the club has also made consistent strides in the AFC Champions League, reaching the knockout stages in recent campaigns.
