Sabah FC will part ways with head coach Jean-Paul de Marigny after the Australian tactician confirmed his departure following a brief but impactful four-month tenure with Sang Badak.
The 64-year-old announced his decision through an emotional farewell video released on Sabah FC’s official social media channels on Thursday afternoon, bringing clarity to speculation surrounding his future at the club.
Speaking directly to supporters, de Marigny expressed his regret at having to step away so soon.
“I want to end this message with a heavy heart, as I have to leave Sabah FC,” he said.
“The simple reason is that my family is calling me home.”
His words struck a chord with fans, reflecting a decision driven not by footballing matters, but by personal circumstances.
Appointed on 13 August, de Marigny’s stint may have been brief, but it was far from insignificant. Under his guidance, Sabah produced one of their most impressive cup runs in recent years, advancing all the way to the FA Cup final — a notable achievement that reignited belief among the Sang Badak faithful.
Beyond results, the Australian coach was credited with instilling greater tactical discipline and competitive edge, helping Sabah remain a difficult side to break down during his tenure.
