Malaysian badminton landscape has been rocked following the news that national women’s doubles shuttler Go Pei Kee has officially tendered her resignation to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
The 24-year-old’s sudden decision has sent ripples through Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM), with reports confirming she has already packed her bags for her hometown in Johor, absent from recent training sessions.
Despite the submission of the letter, BAM is not ready to let go of the talented Johorean just yet. Speaking to Astro Arena’s Zaki Zainal, Secretary-General Datuk Kenny Goh confirmed the receipt of the document but remained non-committal on the association’s next move.
“Pei Kee has submitted her letter and we have received it, but we have not made an official decision yet,” Kenny stated.
In a move that underscores Pei Kee’s value to the national setup, BAM Technical Committee Chairman and legendary shuttler Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei is set to intervene.
At 24, Pei Kee is reaching her prime years in a doubles circuit that desperately needs depth. Her departure would leave a significant void in the women’s department as Malaysia looks to build momentum for the upcoming season.
