It was a pulse-pounding two days for the Malaysian contingent at the YONEX German Open 2026, with the Round of 32 delivering a cocktail of clinical dominance and heart-wrenching exits.
While our heavy hitters in the Men’s Doubles department stayed true to form, the singles camp faced a grueling reality check on the European stage.
In the Mixed Doubles (XD) circuit, Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai [5] showed no mercy to their Dutch opponents, cruising to a 21-15, 21-8 win. They are joined by the makeshift pair of Jimmy Wong and Lai Pei Jing, who showed incredible grit to bounce back from a set down and win 21-17 in the decider against Denmark.
The singles category, however, told a different story. Young sensation Justin Hoh and national representative Leong Jun Hao both exited after three-set thrillers.
Jun Hao came whiskers away from an upset against 8th seed Chi Yu Jen, losing by the narrowest of margins at 20-22 in the final set.
On the bright side, Wong Ling Ching kept the Jalur Gemilang flying in the Women’s Singles (WS) after a hard-fought win over India’s Tanvi Sharma in three games, 21-19, 17-21, 21-16.
