Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie saw their German Open 2026 campaign come to an abrupt and painful halt on Friday, falling in the quarter-finals to the surging Singapore-Indonesia partnership of Terry Hee Yong Kai and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
Despite entering the Westenergie Sporthalle as the 5th seeds and heavy favorites, the Malaysian “Dream Pair” struggled to impose their usual rhythm against a duo that has fast become the giant-slayers of this Super 300 tournament.
The match started with promise for the Malaysians. Goh/Lai looked sharp in the opening exchanges, utilizing their trademark chemistry to build an early 6-4 lead. However, the momentum shifted during a critical lapse just before the interval.
A string of unforced errors allowed the Hee-Widjaja pair to reel off four consecutive points. After trailing 9-11 at the break, Goh/Lai found themselves constantly chasing the game, eventually dropping the first set 17-21.
Any hopes of a Malaysian comeback were quickly extinguished in the second frame. The cross-border duo ramped up the intensity, leaving Goh/Lai stranded as they succumbed to a 13-21 defeat.
