Japan national team played its first match in 2023 with a tied Uruguay national team with a score of 1-1 in the Kirin Challenge Cup 2023 (International Friendly ‘A’ Match) at the Japan Olympic Stadium, Tokyo.
In the first half, there were times when Japan had possession of the ball, and although they created some unfortunate moments, they were unable to open the goal against Uruguay’s solid defense. In the 38th minute, the 24-year-old Uruguayan hopeful Valverde was hit by a momentary gap. Wrap at 0-1.
In the 53rd minute of the second half, Mitoma carried it from the center and made a vertical pass to Asano. Asano received the ball and tried to finish, but he was unable to take the shot he wanted due to the opponent’s harsh approach.
In the 61st minute, Japan introduced Kiyo Ueda and Junya Ito at the same time. After 4 minutes, these two people make a highlight. Ito, who ran in to Ueda’s drop, was knocked down and awarded a PK. However, after a VAR check and an on-field review, it was declared no foul.
Despite missing a golden opportunity, Japan returned the match to the beginning in the 75th minute. Substitute Takuma Nishimura responded to Ito’s cross that broke through the right side. He made sure to hit the net with his left foot.
Neither of them moved the scoreboard after that. It ended in a 1-1 draw.
