Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has confirmed it will file an appeal against FIFA’s decision to sanction the national body and several heritage players over alleged irregularities in player eligibility.
In an official statement, Acting FAM President Datuk Wira Mohd Yusoff Haji Mahadi stressed that both the association and the players involved had acted in good faith and with full transparency throughout the process.
“FAM has managed all documentation and related procedures transparently in line with the prescribed guidelines. In fact, FIFA had previously reviewed the eligibility of these players and officially confirmed that they were eligible to represent Malaysia,” said Mohd Yusoff.
FAM confirmed that it will pursue every available legal and procedural avenue to ensure the interests of the players and the Malaysian national team are protected.
“Following this decision, FAM will make an appeal and use all legal channels to safeguard our players and the national team. We remain committed to upholding international regulations and defending the integrity of Malaysian football,” he added.
The governing body also emphasized its ongoing collaboration with the Malaysian Government and all relevant stakeholders to guarantee that the process remains transparent, fair, and rooted in the true spirit of sport.
FAM assured fans and the wider football community that updates on the appeal process and subsequent actions will be communicated in due course.
The appeal follows FIFA’s disciplinary ruling earlier today, which imposed fines and suspensions on FAM and seven players for alleged breaches of Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code concerning forgery and falsification of documents in relation to heritage players.
