England’s national team advanced to the round of 16 at the top of the group after tying the Slovenia national team, scoring 0-0 in the UEFA EURO 2024 Group Stage, Group C at Cologne Stadium, Cologne.
As predicted, England started the match on the front foot, controlling possession and pinning Slovenia back into their defensive third. England’s early pressure nearly paid off in the 20th minute when Bukayo Saka found the net. However, the goal was disallowed as Phil Foden, who provided the assist, was flagged for offside.
Slovenia grew into the game after the 35th minute, showing more attacking intent. Their goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, was outstanding, making several crucial saves to keep England at bay.
England continued to dominate in the second half, with the introduction of Kobbie Mainoo adding more control and creativity in midfield. Despite the increased pressure, Slovenia remained disciplined and organized defensively.
England manager Gareth Southgate made a tactical change by introducing Cole Palmer, shifting him to the right and moving Phil Foden into a more central role behind Harry Kane. Despite these adjustments, England struggled to find a breakthrough.
Despite their dominance, England couldn’t convert their chances, and the match ended in a 0-0 draw. However, the draw was enough for England to top Group C with five points.
